Green Picnic Review 2009

Lucky winner of the low energy computer

Lucky winner of the low energy computer

The Green Picnic in August was a great success, Steve truly outdid himself this year with the bouncy castle – not one but three giant inflatables!

Lots of people came to enjoy the sunshine and take a picnic on the green. The Challenge North Leigh tent was busy with lots of interest in the progress we are making towards our target of 10% reduction in electricity usage.

Thanks to everyone who is displaying their “We’re doing our bit!” window stickers. All were entered into the prize draw and the computer was won by Geoff Barrell.

TAKE UP THE CHALLENGE – AND HELP TOWARDS OUR 10% REDUCTION TARGET
window-sticker
Have you completed and displayed your ‘We’re Saving energy with Challenge North Leigh’ card yet? It’s very easy to use! Check out the energy saving challenges on the back of the card, and fill in one star (on the front of the card) for every three of the energy saving measures which your household has successfully implemented. There will be another ‘extra’ challenge in this month’s Nor’Lye News if you need it to make up your nine.

Display your card in a prominent front window once you have completed all the challenges. We are aiming for the 21st of June 2009 as the deadline, so start checking and taking action now!

All householders who display a completed card with three stars coloured in will:

  1. Be entered into a raffle to be drawn at the Green Picnic on August 15th.
  2. Have the chance to win a fabulous energy efficient computer.
  3. Be given a stylish CNL window sticker to let everyone know that you are doing your bit towards saving energy and reaching the 10% target.

carshare2Why not consider lift sharing? I’ve been lift sharing for about 6 months now and my wallet has definitely noticed the difference!

I used THIS website to find other people making similar journeys and ended up sharing with up to four other people which cut my weekly commute from around 300 miles to between 60 and 120 miles. Not only has my diesel bill dropped dramatically, but with much less milage on the clock, my oil changes have become much more infrequent too.

You meet new people and know that you are helping to cut carbon emissions and saving yourself money at the same time. Everyone’s a winner!
